Preschool Curriculum


We believe the most important thing every child should learn is to love God and one another. This belief guides us as we plan activities that allow children to love God in prayer and worship. Children love one another by sharing, taking turns and playing together.

Academically, the curriculum will focus on instilling a desire for lifelong learning. It will be part social, part play and part books/paper/pencil. Age-appropriate experiential activities will be provided to enhance all learning. Children will develop gross and fine motor skills through physical activity, interacting with various toys, exploring outdoor and gym activities, working with crayons, paints, clay, glue, scissors, and various other activities. Our children will come to recognize themselves as an important part of our faith community through prayer, worship, scripture and instruction.

Attention will be given to each child’s social development through interaction with adults and other children. Group and individual activities will be provided to help children further develop their verbal skills as well as an appreciation for those around them.

Below are listed general curriculum goals and activities. Each one will be implemented based on the developmental level of the children in each program.

Reading Readiness

Language growth will be developed through:

  • Opportunities for conversation about common experiences
  • Taking part in storytelling
  • Interpreting pictures
  • Sequencing (both visual and auditory)
  • Recognizing printed symbols as having meaning

Vocabulary growth will be developed through:

  • Speaking and attaching meaning to simple words
  • Matching and labeling

Visual discrimination will be developed by:

  • Recognizing likenesses and differences in color and configuration
  • Recognizing similarities in space, size and details
  • Copying patterns with manipulatives
  • Reproducing squares, circles, rectangles and triangles.

Listening skills will be acquired through listening to stories, poetry and direction.

Math Readiness

  • Introduce numbers
  • One-to-one correspondence
  • Add and take away objects
  • Group and regroup
  • Count sequentially
  • Use spatial terms such as over, under, above

Measurement of time, length, liquid, money and weight


  • Observe the wonders of God’s creation
  • Introduce the process of scientific learning
  • Learn simple facts about plants and animals

  • Encourage good dietary habits
  • Encourage positive safety habits

Explore and develop an appreciation for art, drama, literature and music


Our parish mission statement is from the Gospel of Matthew: “Go forth and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you” (28:19-20).  We recognize that the word “discipline” is derived from the word “disciple.” We hear our pastor frequently state that we are called as parents, teachers and parishoners to prepare our children to live forever with our heavenly Father.

With this understanding and goal, our discipline policy will focus on training our children to live as Christians through their Catholic faith. Misbehaviors will reflect the four steps of confession: recognize the wrongdoing, admit what was done, ask for forgiveness and make amends for the wrong.

Parents will be contacted if the offense is of a serious nature or repetitious. Most behaviors will be dealt with during the class session.
